Our Policy
Applications
Each Cub Scout and Adult volunteer must complete a BSA application. Each Lion and Tiger Cub must have an Adult Partner with them at all Pack and Den events, but that Adult does not need to complete a BSA application. Pack 118’s pack-specific application is available at Pack 118 Application. Paper applications are available from the Pack Committee Chairman. A prorated BSA national fee is due upon registration. The fee is embedded in the online application. Contact a committee member about paying by check if using a paper application.
All Adult volunteers (excluding Lion and Tiger Adult Partners) must complete BSA’s Youth Protection Training at YPT Training before interacting with Cub Scouts. Additional information for parents is available at: How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide.
Pack/Den Meetings
Pack 118 generally has one Pack meeting and one or two Den meetings per month, September through April, with a kick-off Pack meeting in August and a culminating Rank Advancement Pack Meeting in May. Pack and Den calendars are available on the Pack website.
The color guard schedule for Pack meetings will be posted with the Pack meeting calendar at the beginning of the year after the planning committee meeting. It will rotate through the year: Arrow of Light Den, Webelos, Bear Den, Wolf Den, and Tiger Den.
The Pack annual calendar will be posted on the Pack website after our annual planning committee meeting. The calendar will show the dates for the Pinewood Derby, Lock in, and other notable events.
Pack and Den activities are not automatically cancelled if local schools close for inclement weather. Pack or Den leadership will announce any cancellations/postponements via email. Contact your Den leader if you have questions about an event’s status.
Behavior and Discipline
Every Scout, sibling, and Adult is expected to behave in accordance with the Scout Oath and Law at all times. Momentary lapses are expected from the Cub Scouts, but recurring misbehavior will not be tolerated. Lion and Tiger Adult Partners and Scout parents/guardians are expected to address any behavioral problems promptly.
Den Leaders may unilaterally dismiss a Scout or sibling from a Den meeting in order to maintain order within the Den, but must inform Pack Leadership as soon as possible of the incident. Pack leadership will meet with Den leadership and a Scout’s parents/guardians if necessary to address repeated problems and, in extreme cases, may expel a Scout from the Pack.
Facebook
Our Pack Facebook page (Pack 118- Brooks, GA) is only for parents and guardians of current Pack 118 Scouts. All new member accounts must be approved by one of the page Admins. Minor accounts will not be approved. All posts should directly relate to Pack 118 activities. Advertising, business promotions, cursing, derogatory language, etc are not allowed.

Dues
Pack dues are paid annually at the beginning of the school year. Dues support Pack meeting activities, our annual Pinewood Derby (including one Pinewood Derby car per Scout), Flint River Council fees, Pack ceremonies, and our Pack trailer.
Dues are non-refundable. New Scout dues are required when a Cub Scout turns in their BSA application. Returning Scout dues are due at the first Pack meeting. Dues are payable via PayPal, our Square store, or by check or cash. Returning Scouts may also debit their dues from their Pack Credit. Contact the Pack Treasurer at treasurerpack118@gmail.com with any questions.
Cub Scouts joining or transferring to Pack 118 between November and May will pay prorated dues to cover Council fees, badges and belt loops, and ceremonies for the remainder of the year. d. Financial hardship should not keep any child from Cub Scouting. If you need to make alternate financial arrangements, contact the Treasurer, Cubmaster, or any Pack Committee Member.
Fundraising and Scout Pack Credit Accounts
Pack 118 is enrolled with Kroger Community Rewards. Our NPO (Organization Number) is NV659. Please register and choose us as your non-profit beneficiary to help offset Pack expenses.
The Pack Treasurer will maintain Pack Credit accounts for each Cub Scout. This account is funded by fall semester Popcorn Sales and spring semester Camp Card sales.
Popcorn
Popcorn revenue is a critical fundraiser for our Pack and national BSA. Each Scout will receive 25% of their popcorn revenue as Pack Credit and some Scouts will receive prizes based on their sales.
Camp Cards
Camp Cards are the primary fundraiser for Flint River Council. Each Scout will receive 50% of their Camp Card sales as Pack Credit. Scouts can also earn various prizes from Council. More information is available on the Flint River Council website.
Pack Credit account funds are only usable for Cub Scout expenses incurred after the closeout of the respective fundraising drive (i.e. Popcorn credit is available for any expenses incurred after the end of the Popcorn sales drive - normally the November pack meeting). Exceptions will be decided by the Pack Committee on a case-by-case basis. Pack Credit accounts have no cash value and are only transferable within BSA.
In the event a Cub Scout becomes inactive and his/her BSA annual membership terminates, and after the expiration of twelve (12) months from the date of such termination, the Cub Scout’s Pack Credit account shall be closed, and any such funds shall revert to the Pack’s general operating account.
Any inactive Cub Scout whose BSA annual membership terminated on or before August 25, 2023, and after the expiration of twelve (12) months from August 25, 2023, the Cub Scout’s Pack account shall be closed, and any such funds shall revert to the Pack’s general operating account.
It is the Cub Scout parent or guardian’s responsibility to notify the Pack Treasurer if the Cub Scout has joined another BSA unit of any type prior to the expiration of the above-defined time periods and apply for the transfer of any such funds from the then existing Cub Scout Pack Credit account.
Pack Credit account funds can only be transferred to another active BSA unit. The Pack cannot issue payment of any kind to parents, guardians and/or Cub Scouts for any funds in the Pack Credit account.
Pack 118 has no control over, makes no guarantee of, and assumes no liability or responsibility whatsoever regarding any other BSA unit’s policies or procedures regarding the distribution, use or treatment of Cub Scout/Scout Credit accounts, which have been transferred.
Trips
Trips and outings are a critical part of the Cub Scouting experience. Pack 118 normally participates in one Fall and one Spring weekend trip, as well as various day trips throughout the year. Some trips will require advance registration and payment. The cost for the trip will be established before registration opens and payment is due upon registration. Costs are non-refundable after the Pack secures your reservation.
Every Cub Scout, sibling, and parent that attends a Pack-sanctioned trip must bring with them a 3-page hard copy health form (BSA 680-001 A and B). This blank form will be sent out with the trip information and is also available at: Official BSA Health Forms Please also specifically notify trip leadership of any health concerns, allergies, etc.
Advancement
Each Scout can earn various Belt Loops and Pins throughout the year. Den Leaders are responsible for tracking and recording advancement progress. The Cub Scout handbook outlines the requirements for each Belt Loop/Pin activity.
Cub Scouts advance in rank by earning the required number of Belt Loops/Pins according to their Handbook. All Scouts will have a chance to earn the Bobcat badge, regardless of their age at registration. A Cub Scout generally must attend at least 75% of their Den Meetings in order to accomplish the required rank prerequisites. Any missed meetings should be coordinated with the Den Leader so the missed items can be accomplished at home
